Virtual Cycling

I’ve been cycling a lot lately, over hill and dale, along the coast, through the redwoods and city streets. Miles and miles of cycling. I do it all from the air conditioned comfort of the sports club I joined a month ago. I have neither the cojones nor the desire to go out and bicycle the streets for real, having a distrust of strangers in cars. I really like this homogenized version of the sport. The Expresso bikes have become my favorite workout. Watching the scenery change on the flat screen attached to the bike is distracting from the fact that I’m exercising, plus it has a login feature and connects with the Internet, allowing you to check on your progress from your home computer. Calories burned, miles cycled and time spent on the bike are all logged.
I could get addicted to this. Here’s hoping!

Given my addiction to cycling I read that first couple sentences and I was all WooHOO! Then I got to the next one about the virtuality of it all and of the elements not present that might get you to do the real deal and I was a bit deflated.
But now I’m somewhere in the middle: it sounds like a cool engaging way to get a workout and who knows…. maybe someday down the road it’ll make you wanna give a real bike a go. Never say never, right?
Anyway, whatever works for you, Jo, which rhymes with Go, Baby Go!
Ah, the man with the cojones of which I speak! Someday down the road I may take it to the streets….. but NEVER the kind of streets you travel, just a nice safe bike path somewhere. I don’t have the nerves to mix bikes with cars. but maybe with the gas prices soaring there will be more bikes on the road and a lot less motorized vehicles.
Thanks for the encouragement - it’s definitely working for me!
