Nevada City Again

Josephine Gillis | General | Saturday, 19 April 2008

nevadacity.gifI returned home this Wednesday from yet another visit to Nevada City. Four full days in the foothills. No snow this time, as there was just a month ago when I visited, but beautiful, warm and sunny weather. It’s springtime in Nevada City and the dogwoods are in bloom. We spent time down by the river and did a lot of relaxing, eating, star gazing and chilling out in general.

Saturday night we had dinner at Lefty’s, a good burger restaurant right on the main street. If you’re familiar with Nevada City, Lefty’s Grill is where Citizen’s restaurant used to be. The hamburgers and fries are just what hamburger and fries should be. There’s your basic burger, cheeseburger and some other selections, including one called the Halitosis Burger, which I am sure was very good and came with garlic fries, but we stuck with good old American cheeseburgers and were not disappointed. The restaurant is small and we got there just before the normal dinner hour and were seated immediately. It’s a perfect spot to people watch, especially with the Mine Shaft Saloon directly across the street. It’s biker central on the weekends and rather colorful.

We walked around downtown after dinner, the streets were busy with tourists and I felt nostalgic for a past time, another life it seems now. I didn’t see any familiar faces and then I remembered that no self respecting local would be downtown on a Saturday milling with the tourists.

It still feels like home there.
